Conference Overview
This one day conference, March 25, 2009, will explore the role food technology can play in helping to address the world food crisis.

In developing countries, it is acknowledged that a great deal of the loss of food takes place in the period after harvest and before food gets into the hands of the consumer. For example, with fruits and vegetables, the post-harvest loss may be as much as 60%... and with grain, as much as 20%. This is one of the reasons why 963 million people in the world go hungry every might. In developing countries, the use of advanced food processing and packaging technology can reduce food waste, improve food safety, elevate food quality, and contribute to social development.

IPACK- IMA, in collaboration with II Sole 24 ORE, is organizing this international conference with the cooperation of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the World Food Program (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). In addition, this conference is receiving the support of many entities with in the Italian Government.
